Dance Instruction
Chen Ling specializes in International Style Standard and Smooth instruction, including Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, and the Viennese Waltz.
Chen currently teaches at The DanceSport Academy of New England (DANE) in Brookline, MA close to the green line T.
You can contact Chen at 240-354-5724 or ling @ ilovedancing.org.
Chen will be starting a series of group classes for the enthusiastic dance student starting in the Fall. If you are interested, please register here.
The series of group classes taught by Chen will cover the various Standard dances at the Bronze and Silver levels as well as two Technique classes. If there is sufficient interest for other classes (Gold/Open Standard or Smooth classes), those will be added as well.
- Bronze Standard - For competitive and continuing social dancers. These classes lay down a foundation for learning the complete Bronze syllabus. There will be a strong emphasis on learning the steps correctly as well as strong lead/follow skills. The specific dance taught will rotate monthly. No prior dance experience required. No partner necessary.
- Beginner Standard Technique - For the dancer who wants to take their dancing to the next level. These classes will focus on different elements of dance theory and technique. Some topics will stand alone--such as frame, connection, power, and swing. We will also illustrate some difficult steps such as heel turns, natural spin turns, and pivots in detail. Depending on who the students are, this class may complement the Bronze class. Knowledge of the Bronze syllabus is highly recommended but not necessary. No partner necessary.
- Silver Standard - For the more advanced dancer. These classes lay down a foundation for learning the complete Silver syllabus. There will be a strong emphasis on learning the steps correctly as well as strong lead/follow skills. The specific dance taught will rotate monthly. Knowledge of the Bronze syllabus or permission of the instructor is required. No partner necessary.
- Intermediate Standard Technique - For the dancer who wants to take their dancing to the next level. These classes will focus on different elements of dance theory and technique. Some topics will stand alone--such as flight, balance, control, and head weight. We will also illustrate some difficult steps such as slip pivots, contra checks, oversways, and lunges in detail. Depending on who the students are, this class may complement the Silver class. Knowledge of the Bronze syllabus is required and knowledge of the Silver syllabus is recommended but not necessary. No partner is necessary but recommended.
